Love My Neighbour

Together with The Salvation Army Older People’s Ministries Team, we’re thrilled to invite you to join Love My Neighbour, our campaign against winter loneliness

A simple but powerful initiative designed to take us beyond the church threshold and into our neighbourhoods, to bring life to older people.

Love My Neighbour 2025-2026

Winter is a time of increased loneliness, especially among older people. As the days get darker and colder, many older people will forego their usual opportunities to gather and connect with others, and they'll stay at home.

The loneliness this social isolation causes can have a devastating impact on many older people, even increasing the risk of premature death.

Praying for, visiting, inviting and helping our older neighbours is a wonderful way to make a real difference in our communities.

How does Love My Neighbour work?

Whether you're an individual, a family, a street, apartment block, or a whole church, we'd love you to consider what simple acts of kindness you might bring to your older neighbours this winter.

You'll have your own ideas on approaches which works best in your context, but for a little inspiration, we share ideas here on these pages, on social media, in our Blog section, and on our YouTube Channel.

Together, let’s shut the door on this dark winter loneliness, and instead open the door to light, life, connection, and God’s incredible love.

Pray for my Neighbour

Praying for our neighbours is a wonderful way to love them. The Bible reminds us that prayer changes things. When we pray we invite God into a situation.

Visit my Neighbour

It begins with prayer, and with wisdom, but hopefully this will lead you to knock on your neighbour's door to offer God's love and ease the burden of loneliness this winter.

Visit my Neighbour

Invite my Neighbour

The winter season brings lots of opportunities for individuals and churches to invite their older neighbours.

Help my Neighbour

Sometimes what would really bless our older neighbours is some practical help - one less thing to worry about surely gladdens the heart!

The Greatest Commandment

Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: ‘Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?’ Jesus replied: ‘“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: “Love your neighbour as yourself.” All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.
